Indus Valley: Indus valley lies between Zanskar Range on its South and the
Ladakh Range on its North at an average elevation of 3500 m. Indus valley is the
geographical backbone, and the historical heartland of Ladakh. The main attractions
of Indus valley are the numerous Buddhist monasteries, quaint villages, fairs, festivals
and local markets.
Zanskar Valley: Zanskar valley is Ladakh's remotest regions. It is a 300
km long valley ringed by mountains and is only reachable by high passes. The Valley
of Zanskar is situated in the inner Himalaya and is higher than most areas of Ladakh.
The climate is very harsh and receives very little rain fall. The twin peaks of
Nun-Kun, its Monasteries and its extremely rugged, awe-aspiring landscape are its
main attractions.
Padum Valley: Padum, is the capital of Zanskar and has very less population
in the region. Padum is a region where Tibetan religion is worshipped with small
populations of Muslims too. Padum valley is situated in the northern region near
Jammu and Kashmir. The valley is irrigated by the Doda River, which is fed by the
Drang – Drung glacier. The valley has some monasteries which are worth exploring
like, Bardan monastery and Kursha monastery.
Shyok Valley: Shyok valley is a shimmering doze of blue, sparkling in the
morning Sun. This was the sight of River Shyok, in summer, winding through the Shyok
Valley, with towering range of the Shyok Mountains on its flanks. Originating in
the Siachen Glacier, close to Nubra with a predominance of xerophytes vegetation.
Shyok further down its course joins the Indus.
Drass Valley: The Drass town is located in the open and plane area. Drass
valley has the habitant of Brokpa tribe, the tribe known to be the original habitat
of the Ladakh. These tribes still live in the old style, they used to live before.
Drass valley is out of cut from the rest the India for more that 7 months because
of the snow fall. The summer season is for the very short time period in the Drass
valley form May when the snow starts melting.
